Cushon inbound transfers double with digital assistant, Iris
Iris’s plain-language journey helps to double the number of savers tracing their old pensions this year, with each looking to transfer an average of two pension pots.

Cushon’s digital financial assistant, Iris, has transformed the way that Cushon customers bring together their old pension pots – with the number of transfer requests doubling in the first half of 2026.
With millions of people heading towards retirement with their pension savings scattered across multiple pots, there’s a clear need for the pensions industry to make consolidation simpler.
Cushon’s research, undertaken by Censuswide, found that 63% of UK employees want all their pensions in one place, yet 43% don’t know how to bring them together[¹].
Iris, which is embedded into Cushon’s workplace pension app, guides customers through simple, educational journeys, making it easier to find old pots and bring them together in one place.
Customers simply type in the names of previous employers or old pension schemes. Iris does the hard work by searching databases to uncover old pots and asks if they would like to transfer and consolidate them. Iris even warns people if their old schemes have any exit penalties or fees.
Interacting with Iris is designed to feel like a conversation, not a process that overwhelms customers with jargon or onerous requests for information.
On average, Cushon is now actioning 8,400 transfer per month as it continues to improve the user journey and find the best ways to engage customers with their pensions.
Lost or forgotten pension pots are a big problem for the industry. The Pensions Policy Institute estimates 3.3 million pension pots are considered lost, at an average sum of £9,470, with £31.1bn inactive or unclaimed[²].
People don’t need convincing that consolidating their pensions makes sense – they need us to make it easier. The appetite is there, but complexity, jargon and the sheer effort of tracking down old pots are stopping people from acting. If we remove the friction and make it simple to find, understand and bring pensions together, people will act.
Iris is a shining example of what happens when you make pensions genuinely easy. Its success shows that smart technology and a simple customer experience can turn good intentions into action. By guiding people through the process and stripping away the jargon and administration, Iris makes consolidation accessible. That’s what good looks like – making it easier for people to bring their pensions together, not making them work harder to do it.
Steve Watson, Director of Policy and Research at Cushon
Iris has been an amazing tool already. I was able to find and consolidate all of my previous pensions, and our CEO was also able to quickly find and consolidate his historic pensions using Iris.
We couldn’t be happier with the switch to Cushon. Given how little time has passed, we’d say it was a huge success.
